We were praying before a worship night when I got this picture in my head of a very dark night where lots of people had torches that they were carrying above their heads so they could see where they were going. They were glowing beautifully, throwing light in every direction. When I looked down I saw in my own hand a little match. I wondered how I could possibly be expected to lift that dumb thing above my head when everyone else had such beautiful, powerful, and big sources of light. After some wrestling I lifted it high above my head, and the light that it cast was huge, and warm, and more than could’ve possibly ever come from a match alone.

But I’m not holding my match alone, Jesus is there with me, helping me with my match, and He’s the one who’s using it. So even when I think my match is stupid, that my gifts aren’t good enough or strong enough, that what I have to offer isn’t worth offering, I will still put it above my head and let it be used! Because God can do anything with anything, and it’s so fun that He lets me be a part of it!

  1. I love this, Ari! With Jesus, our match can be brighter than a torch. Thank you.

  2. I love this. it’s a great analogy. Jesus magnifies our gifts and makes them shine ever brighter when they are in the service of others.

We can contribute 1% of the effort, He fills in the other 99. we are so blessed to be in such amazing partnership….

so keep lifting up the tiny match. it will be an amazing blessing to many others, and they in turn can lift their tiny little matches….
